Well, well. What do we have here. From the looks of the XPS 710's freshly minted website, it appears Dell has a surprise in store for its massive desktop. So far all we have to go on is this little tease:

"Technology like you've never seen. Black Ice is coming, exclusively from Dell."
With the optional IntelВ® CoreTM 2 Extreme QX6700 quad-core processor, the XPS 710 offers a massive performance leap over the previous generations of single-core processor-based desktops. IntelВ® quad-core technology allows you to simultaneously create, share and enjoy rich media content, such as high-definition video, without compromising performance.

Genuine WindowsВ® XP Media Center Edition 2005

Dell's been dropping hints about a new XPS 710 gaming PC with super-secret "Black Ice" cooling technology for a couple of weeks now, and while there hasn't been an official announcement yet (we're expecting something soon at CES), we did manage to get the scoop on the new "XPS 710 H2C" courtesy of a well-placed source. Turns out that "Black Ice" is a "two-stage thermoelectric/liquid cooling solution" that is up to "9 degrees celsius cooler than the [regular] XPS 710 air cooling solution." Other specs include a black aluminum casing, an Intel QX6700 Core 2 Extreme processor, 4GB DDR2 RAM, dual 768MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX SLI Enabled graphics cards, and a 320GB RAID 0 array. List price is a hefty $5,499.
Genuine WindowsВ® XP Media Center Edition 2005 offers enhanced multimedia handling and management versus XP Home Edition, letting you take control of your home and mobile entertainment experience.

Absolute Control Over Entertainment

Offering easy photo editing, video management, access to online content providers, optional TV tuner, DVD playing and more, Media Center helps you turn your PC into a complete entertainment solution.

Dell XPS 710 H2C with Black IceThe innovative NVIDIAВ® nForce 590 SLITM MCP (D) chipset lets you control just how much graphics power your XPS 710 has. You will sit in awe of the massive resolution and incredible frame rates driving the XPS 710 graphics experience, supported by one to four cards from NVIDIAВ® .

An All Out Graphics Assault

Dell has gotten into the habit of overclocking its high-end systems lately, so chances are this Black Ice is a cooling solution that'll allow them to overclock to the max. Sounds reasonable enough. Any other guesses?
This powerful gaming solution includes the optional NVIDIAВ® Quad SLITM technology equipped with the power of dual NVIDIAВ® GeForceВ® 7950 GX2 graphics cards. You get up to 48 megapixels per second of graphics performance for stunning clarity and mind-blowing visuals. Add the latest Intel processor and you can go to extremes never imagined. Get a solid system from Dell with the latest NVIDIA SLITM technology inside.

Big Storage. Big Power.

The XPS 710 was built with room to spare, supporting up to four hard drives for a massive total capacity of 2TB. These drives can be configured to support RAID 0 and RAID 1, helping improve system performance or data protection, depending on your preference.

Dell XPS 710 H2C with Black Ice
Dell today posted an update to its XPS 710 website referencing a technology only known as Black Ice. The company makes an allusion to a "cold front" but does not reveal more than a teaser image. Sources, however, suggest that Black Ice may be a phase change cooling system similar to that of asetek's Vapochill cases, which dramatically reduce the temperature of the system beyond even liquid cooling. The improvement would let Dell overclock even the hot-running Core 2 Extreme four-core processor without affecting other components.
Forward Thinking

Technology is improving at an incredible pace, but we’ve got you covered. The XPS 710 was built to offer easy home expansion with tool-less access for inputting new cards, as well as 750W and 1KW power supply options to support future technology upgrades.

Pump Up the Volume

Earlier this year, Dell released a special edition XPS system known as the Renegade which featured an overclocked, factory-warrantied Pentium 4 as well as a then special quad-SLI video card offering.
The XPS 710 comes standard with 7.1 high-definition audio, or you can treat yourself to the ultimate PC audio experience with the optional Sound BlasterВ® X-FiTM XtremeMusic (D) featuring EAX advanced high-definition sound. The X-Fi card also speeds up game performance by handling your in-game audio with impressive precision and clarity.

Become an XPS VIP

The XPS experience doesn't begin and end with your hardware. With XPS, you don't just get a high-end PC; you get the whole package, including a 15-month subscription to security software, a one-year limited warranty and rapid access to a dedicated group of XPS-trained support specialists.
